Little Explorers Playgroup
Little Explorers is a playgroup open to families with children ages 2 to 5 years old. These naturalist guided experiences are designed with 45 minutes of structured play & exploration followed by 45 minutes of free play. Nature Detectives: Fooled by Nature
Mimicry. Disguise. Concealing Coloration. All of these are types of camouflage used in nature as a means to blend in and to fool prey or to hide from predators. We will search for some of these clever creatures all around Riveredge. Join us as we test various methods of camouflage, and try to fool each other by hiding creatures throughout the landscape.

Nature Tots: Vernal Pond Exploration
Explore the Vernal Pond and the many fantastic creatures that call it home! This pond only exists for a short time as the snow melts and spring rains recharge our soils, so let’s take this opportunity to get to know a few of it’s inhabitants: fairy shrimp, wood frogs, and blue-spotted salamanders!
Nature Tots is an early childhood program designed for learners ages 2-5 years old, accompanied by an adult guardian (little siblings ages 0-1 are welcome to tag along). A Riveredge Naturalist will focus on outdoor exploration, literacy, physical development, nature intelligence, and social development.
Programs will be cancelled and refunded in the case of inclement weather.

Spring Egg Hunt
Join us for a special egg hunt event, Riveredge style! Families are invited to hike a 1/2 mile trail while children encounter stations to gather eggs from. Our eggs are filled with candy-free, nature inspired objects- some include tickets, which can be redeemed for a prize of your child’s choice. After your hike, enjoy the springtime air and play in the natural play area!
When you register, please specify your child’s age- event designed for ages 0 to 10 years. Capacities are limited for children & adults to maintain social distancing and a Covid-Safe environment.

Nature Tots: Sweet Treats from the Sugarbush
The sap is running and sugarin’ time is here! Join us as we learn about this special time of year- when animals and people seek the sweet sap of a sugar maple. We will hike to the sugarbush to tap a maple tree, taste some sap and gather around the evaporator to see how boiling sap becomes syrup.
