Join the Community Rivers Program for an open community conversation to share thoughts and concerns regarding the health and quality of this local freshwater resource. We’ll identify both negative and positive aspects to the Milwaukee River and the Milwaukee River Watershed as a whole while developing strategies for reaching future aspirations.

Families are invited to learn about the importance of backyard green infrastructure through the use of rain barrels. Simple step-by-step instructions on how to set up and then put your rain barrel to use will be provided. 1 barrel per household.

Become a Water Action Volunteer

Become a Water Action Volunteer

Join Milwaukee Riverkeeper and Riveredge staff to learn how to assess the water quality of a nearby stream or river. You’ll find out how to identify aquatic invertebrates and do five water quality tests. Monitors are asked to conduct tests monthly during the summer and submit their data to the statewide Water Action Volunteers website.

Join the Community Rivers Program to clean out our storm drains! Along the way you will learn more about how fallen leaves deposit an excess of nutrients into our waterways & what you can do to minimize this! Sign up as a group or an individual; we provide the supplies and you provide the manpower!

Join a naturalist and step into the Milwaukee River! We’ll explore this wonderful, watery world and seek out the creatures that call the river home. Bring your favorite wading shoes (old sneakers work best), a towel and a change of clothes. Expect to get wet! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Feel free to pack a snack and stay for a picnic after the program.
