Tree Climbing
Explore Riveredge at a new elevation! Our Tree Climbing programs are meant for youth and adults, age 7 and above, with little to no tree climbing skills. Ascend ropes and explore the world way above your feet. We make it safe and easy! All equipment is supplied; all you need is loose clothing (T-shirt and long pants recommended), closed toe shoes (hard soles recommended), and an adventurous spirit. The tree climbing programs often fill quickly. Our Tree Climbing programs are meant for youth and adults, age 7 and above, with little to no tree climbing skills. River Rambling
Join a naturalist and step into the Milwaukee River! We’ll explore this wonderful, watery world and seek out the creatures that call the river home. Bring your favorite wading shoes (old sneakers work best), a towel and a change of clothes. Expect to get wet! Feel free to pack a snack and stay for a picnic after the program.

Growing Green: Shearing Sheep & Angora Goats Demonstration
Join us for an immersive experience at Honey Creek Orchard in Cedarburg (address below) as part of our Growing Green program series. Witness the skill and expertise of Luke and Bri, two of our Riveredge Nature Center educators, who also co-own the business Riversong Shearing. This interactive demonstration offers a unique opportunity not only to witness the artistry of shearing firsthand but also to learn from Luke and Bri about sustainable farming practices, the importance of fiber animals in agriculture, and the harmonious relationship between humans, animals, and the environment. Whether you’re a seasoned farmer, a fiber arts enthusiast, or simply curious about the world of agriculture, this event promises to be both educational and inspiring. About Luke, Bri, and Riversong Shearing:
Luke and Bri lead a unique lifestyle, spending most of the year working at Riveredge and then embarking on an exciting journey as traveling shearers during the shearing season. Their adventures take them across 13 states, starting in Florida during the winter months and shearing at approximately 250 farms. Specializing in sheep, alpacas, and llamas, Luke and Bri bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the shearing demonstration. As they expertly shear the sheep and Angora goats, they will share insights into their nomadic lifestyle, their experiences on the road with their faithful chihuahua companion, and the joys and challenges of life as traveling shearers.

Garlic Mustard Pull-A-Thon
On Tuesday May 7th, 2024 from 9am-6:30pm Riveredge Nature Center will be hosting a Mustard Pull-A-Thon as a part of Southeastern Wisconsin Invasive Species Consortium’s Annual Garlic Mustard Pull-A-Thon. Learn more about SEWISC Pull-a-thon and Riveredge here!
With the help of extraordinary volunteers Riveredge will be able to reclaim a significant portion of the land at the Mayhew Woods from invasive Mustard plants.The pull-a-thon is a competition, a fundraiser, and a way for people to join together to have a positive impact on their environment. Our natural areas need your help to avoid the damage that invasives cause!
With timeslots at 9am, 11:30am, 2pm, and 4:30pm volunteers will join Riveredge staff for 2 hours of mustard pulling. All supplies will be provided! This opportunity is open to individuals and groups of up to 100 people at a time. Volunteers may be as young as 13 years old with supervision by an adult as well as a signed waiver for anyone under 18.
Pre-registration is required by May 3 at 11:55 pm.
Volunteers should park and meet at Fireman’s Park in Newburg (address below).

Family Nature Club
Fishing Fun at Ridge Run!
Spend the afternoon on the banks of Wells Lake in Ridge Run Park with a pole in your hand and hopefully a few bites on your line! Learn how to tie on a hook, bait your hook, and safely cast your line into the water. We will try to catch and identify each fish before releasing them back into their home.
We’ll bring some poles and bait for folks to use – or bring your own. 🙂 Fishing license required for adults. Baits and poles will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This space is stroller friendly!
Family Nature Club is a free offering to our community designed for kids, teens, and their families. We facilitate outdoor, environmental-education based experiences for families to enjoy together.

NOSD School Prairie Hike
Join us as we hike around the NOSD School Prairie that was planted June 2023, a little over ½ mile. What species will be up this spring? Did you know it takes 3 years for a prairie to establish? Seeds/plants are establishing root systems for the 1st few years. Through game(s) we will explore with seeds and plants. This path is grass and stroller friendly.
