Tea & Topics: Plants in Winter

January 13, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The plants of temperate and boreal regions have several adaptations that allow them to survive extreme low temperatures and the freeze-drying associated with long winters. Join Dr. James Reinartz, Director emeritus, UWM Field Station to explore all of the aspects of plant life in the winter. He’ll especially discuss what is known about the special adaptations that allow northern plants to survive the freezing and drought associated with extreme cold. How can a living thing survive the formation of ice crystals in its tissues?
