Traditional Anishinaabe Beading Workshop 102: Two Needle Applique

Learn traditional Anishinaabe beadwork techniques with Erica Bhatti, member of the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe. She will instruct the two-needle applique technique. Participants will create earrings or pins. Sip on traditional cedar tea (high in antioxidants and vitamin C) while learning about the cultural importance of Indigenous crafts and regalia and practicing a new skill. Materials will be provided.

Erica is a self-taught beadworker, practicing with her brother to revitalize a long-standing tradition endangered by the Boarding School era. While completing her B.S. in Neuroscience at the University of Chicago and modeling around the country and walking runway for Indigenous designers, Erica has been the President of the Native American and Indigenous Student Organization, organizing community building and educational events, planning pow wows, and advising university leadership. She works in Chicago as a reading therapist. Erica grew up in West Bend, and spent summers on the Lac du Flambeau reservation.

Erica will lead a plant medicine walk following the class; you are invited to join! Please reserve your space by registering on the event calendar.

Learn traditional Anishinaabe beadwork techniques with Erica Bhatti, citizen of the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe. She will instruct two stitching patterns, the lazy stitch and two-needle applique. Participants will be able to create a pin, barrette, and/or earrings. Sip on traditional cedar tea (high in antioxidants and vitamin C) while learning about the cultural importance of Indigenous crafts and regalia and practicing a new skill. Materials will be provided.

Erica is a self-taught beadworker, practicing with her brother to revitalize a long-standing tradition endangered by the Boarding School era.
