Riveredge Visitor Center Groundbreaking Celebration
Help us celebrate the groundbreaking of the Riveredge Visitor Center’s new addition! After 35 years of serving as a gateway to the natural world, our award-winning Visitor Center will begin a new era of accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement.
Celebrate this historic moment with provided refreshments, brief remarks, a groundbreaking ceremony, and guided tours of the project’s progress and future. We are so grateful for your continued support of Riveredge Nature Center’s growing legacy, and look forward to sharing this time with you!
This event is free. Kindly RSVP below to help us make sure we have enough refreshments for all. Walk-in guests are also welcome.
There are select spaces in 11am, 11:20am, 11:40am, 12pm, 12:20pm, 12:40pm, and 1:20pm. Email Alina (before 9am) at aprahl@riveredge.us or call the Nature Center (after 9am on May 3rd) at 262.375.2715 to ensure a reservation for a specific time.
10:00 am – 2:00 pm | Climbs every 20 minutes For adult and/or youth climbers, now open to everyone ages 7+
Want to get up into the trees? Encounter the giants of the forest and explore trees from a new perspective as you climb into the canopy under the guidance of trained facilitators. Ascend to the top, swing from a branch, or try a “bat hang” – Adventure awaits!
The Tree Climbing Festival Registration includes 20 minutes of climb time (please choose a time slot when registering), a scavenger hunt along the trails, a naturalist-led hands-on nature investigation, and access to picnic areas for lunch (please pack a lunch and be mindful of single use plastic waste).
Pricing*: $25 per participant – Includes 20 minutes of tree climbing
Open to individuals as well as groups, as long as all climbers are 7+ years old, with limit of 12 participants per 20 minute climbing time slot.
At least one adult chaperone per 10 youth is required for youth / scouting groups.
Pre-registration is required by May 1 at 11:55 pm. Use the button below to register for a 20 minute tree climbing slot.
*If a child related to a registered climber wants to attend the festival without climbing, you can add a non-climber registration for $7 using the button above and choosing the non-climber option. The non-climber must be ages 7+ and registered with at least one climber.

The best place to start is understanding line and knots. Work with experienced anglers to become familiar with essential knots and when to use them. We will start with large rope, work our way towards fishing lines of various types and discuss their application.

Water is all around us and a connecting force for everything that we do at Riveredge! Come visit us on World Water Day as we splash into learning about our wonderful watery places. Observe some wacky water creatures under a microscope and learn about the aquatic inhabitants of our various waters. Take a Riveredge’s Waters map out on trail and visit these ecosystems on a self-guided hike, stopping at the Milwaukee River, Riveredge Creek, and ephemeral ponds.
All ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by and adult 18+. Members, this event is completely free! Non-members just need to pay the trail fee upon arrival. Your registration is included with your trail fee. Pre-registration is not required, but very helpful.

Milwaukee Riverkeeper® Spring Cleanup – In Newburg, Saukville, and Grafton!
Looking for a way to make a difference this upcoming Earth Day? We encourage you to participate in this communal effort to keep our local waterways free of trash and debris. Join the Milwaukee Riverkeeper® Spring Cleanup for a morning of cleaning up our beloved Milwaukee river. All pre-registrants will receive a FREE t-shirt!
While Milwaukee Riverkeeper® hosts cleanup sites throughout Southeastern Wisconsin, Riveredge will be hosting three of them in Ozaukee County!
All ages welcome! Children should be accompanied by an adult. All sites will be meeting at 9:00 am and working until noon. Click on any of the three sites below to register.
Attracting Bluebirds and Other Cavity Nesters to Your Yard
Many spring migrants will soon be returning to our area looking for housing. Learn how to attract a wide variety of cavity-nesting birds to your yard. We will discuss the pros and cons of different nest box styles and cover the basics of where to place them and how to maintain them. This workshop is meant for amateur and experienced bird lovers. Near the end of the program we’ll take a short walk on the bluebird trail to see how boxes should be mounted and placed so dress for the weather.
Ages 12+
This program is free for everyone! Donations are greatly appreciated.

The fifth season is here- the Maple Sugarin’ Season! Bring your families, bring your friends to celebrate this sappy gift from the trees at Riveredge’s annual Maple Sugarin’ Festival on March 15th!
Choose your adventure as you hike the trails where you can visit the Sapsucker Cafe, trade nature items for maple candies, observe various means of syrup production through history, complete a sappy scavenger hunt, and create a nature-based craft. Upon arrival at the Sugarbush House, enjoy live music while you sip Riveredge Apple Cider, or beer for the adults, and taste the Riveredge special- pancakes & pickles! You’ll learn just how sap is made into golden & sweet maple syrup.
What to Expect: You can look forward to activities like: – Live Music from Josh Ammons 1-3pm – Tree Tappin’ Trading Post – Maple Legends, Stories, and Songs – Try-it-Yourself Tree Tappin’ – Crafting with Natural Materials – Evaporator Demonstration – Delicious Treats! A pancake & pickle in syrup is provided with your registration. Additional pancakes will be available for purchase, as well as… Hot chocolate, Specialty Maple Sugar Coffee, Beer, Sap Tea, and Popcorn.
Parking and Check-in: Parking will be at Newburg Fireman’s Park, and two bus shuttles will be running. There will be spots reserved for those with limited mobility at the Visitor Center. Check-in or register at the Riveredge Visitor Center.
Timing: The event runs from 12-4pm on Saturday March 15th, come and go as you please! Live music at the Sugarbush House from 1-3pm.
Accessibility: We will have accessible parking reserved at the Visitor Center. Riveredge also has an all-terrain wheelchair available to reserve for the event at no cost! Learn more or reserve a wheelchair here.
Weather: Riveredge events run rain, snow, or shine!
Per NOAA as of 5pm 3/14, “A slight chance of showers between 1pm and 4pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 57. Windy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph becoming south 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.”
Trail Conditions: Due to forecast wind gusts up to 50 mph, forested trails are closed. A shuttle is provided. Hike at your own risk.
Expect the ground to be muddy and wear appropriate footwear. Layers in anticipation of rain are recommended. Event activities are both indoor and outdoor.
*Extra pancake tickets will be available for $1, cash & Venmo in the pancake line, credit card at concessions. For an all-you-can-eat pancake experience, check out the Pancake Breakfast on March 29th and 30th.
