Science Thursday Lecture Series: Observation and Discovery in Nature

March 13 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Science Thursday Lecture Series: Observation and Discovery in Nature through the use of Haiku

In a world where the hustle and bustle of daily life and our electronics often distracts us from the extraordinary, the wonders of nature beckon us to pause and reflect. Teacher/naturalist, Chuck Ritzenthaler, will take you on an enlightening journey into the realm of nature’s magical adaptations—elegant solutions crafted over millennia that empower not only the diverse tapestry of wildlife but also humankind. Some of the topics included are the fascination with cell size, intricate design of a garden spider web, the history and magic of yellow sweet clover, willow’s place in history, the monarch mimic, future innovation from the dragonfly, and the amazing story of the goldenrod gall. The remarkable strategies in this presentation through the use of haiku will showcase nature’s ingenuity and its profound impact on our survival and well-being. We will end with the magic of popcorn and how its traits might influence your life. As we explore these breathtaking marvels, we’ll discover how understanding and appreciating these adaptations can inspire us to forge a deeper connection with the natural world, ultimately enhancing our own lives in ways we never imagined. Let’s touch grass and maybe even create a haiku.
