Expand your restoration skillsets by getting past the Genus Salix to further your understanding of willow species identification and their habitat needs. Follow Zach Khron and Matt Smith into off trail areas of Riveredge’s uncommon habitats to find willow popultions, identify to species and discuss management. We will start our day in lab to review herbarium specimins and end it in the field. Dress for all forcasted weather, bring your knee high boots and a lunch!

Ozaukee Washington Bird Coalition
Birding at the Bog by Canoe or Kayak
Mud Lake in the Cedarburg Bog is one of the top birding spots in the county. Weโll do about 1 mile of paddling and 1 1/2 miles of walking looking for late migrants and avian residents uncommon to rare in southeastern Wisconsin. With advanced permission a limited number of personal kayaks and canoes will be allowed. Canoes will be provided at a $10 rental fee payable at the time of the outing.
The outing starts and ends at the UW-Milwaukee Field Station (address below).

Stroll with a Naturalist:
Spring Wildflowers
Join a naturalist for a casual walk on the trails of Riveredge. Each stroll will focus on a special aspect of nature but other things of interest will be explored as well. These educational programs will give you a better understanding of the flora and fauna of the nature center. You may even learn some of the history of the land too.

Family Nature Club
Fishing Fun at Ridge Run!
Spend the afternoon on the banks of Wells Lake in Ridge Run Park with a pole in your hand and hopefully a few bites on your line! Learn how to tie on a hook, bait your hook, and safely cast your line into the water. We will try to catch and identify each fish before releasing them back into their home.
Weโll bring some poles and bait for folks to use – or bring your own. ๐ Fishing license required for adults. Baits and poles will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This space is stroller friendly!
Family Nature Club is a free offering to our community designed for kids, teens,ย and their families. We facilitate outdoor, environmental-education based experiences for families to enjoy together.
Park at Ridge Run Park Central entrance in West Bend (address below) and meet at the Lakeside Shelter.
All ages are welcome!

Join Conservation Manager Nathaniel Reinartz on Friday mornings in spring to observe and record the amazing diversity of birds that stop and refuel at Riveredge on their migratory path. We will record our findings into e-bird and enjoy the many warbler hotspots along the Milwaukee River, as well as, tour unsurveyed land Riveredge has recently acquired.
