Cutright Bird Club | An End to Birds Dying at Windows DESCRIPTION: \nBryan Lenz\, collisions campaign manager for the American Bird Conservancy\, pays us a repeat visit in his new role to discuss all things window collisions. There are many variables that can play a role in whether glass is bird friendly\, from avian vision to reflections\, transparency\, landscaping\, and more. After looking at the problems\, Bryan will share his thoughts on designing with birds in mind\, including his role in the Milwaukee Bucks’ new bird-friendly arena\, the Fiserv Forum. And he’ll offer some tips for reducing collisions both at home and at work. \nBryan joined ABC after working as director of Bird City Wisconsin and as the chief scientist at the Western Great Lakes Bird & Bat Observatory. He has also played a critical role in the development of the Midwest Migration Network. Bryan is interested in using education\, research\, design\, technology\, and legislation to reduce threats to birds and build greener communities. A birder since his early teens (when he attended meetings of our bird club)\, Bryan’s undergraduate studies at UW-Madison led him to graduate work studying primate behavior and ecology in Latin America. Bryan earned his Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology while bird-watching his way through primatology field work in Belize\, Peru\, Costa Rica\, and Brazil before officially switching his career path from monkeys to birds. \nAt 6:00pm\, from May through September\, hikes are led by Mary Holleback\, the Riveredge adult programs manager\, across a variety of habitats. Teammates must work together to complete a challenge (task\, obstacle\, relay\, etc.) before advancing to next challenge station. Participants should wear closed toed shoes and be prepared to get a little dirty and wet – it’s part of the fun! \nCollaboration\, communication\, and working together will prove to be extremely important skills to finish this adventure challenge!  The adventure course and challenges have been tailored to participants ages 8 and above. Although most activities do involve a physical component\, some activities may require a large amount of brain power and creativity! \nTips for Adventure Challengers: \n\nWaves begin every 5 minutes.\nTeams should consist of 4 individuals. (See below for options for larger teams.)\nPack a change of clothes and maybe a snack to enjoy after the challenge is complete!\nNon-participant observers are welcome to watch from the starting/ending point of the challenge. Please be aware that observers will not be able to view all challenges from the observation zone.\nParking is free. Water is provided. Memories will be created organically.\n\nExamples of Challenges you may encounter: \n\nPaddle a canoe with no actual paddles at Heron Pond\nSearch for a marshmallow in a kiddy pool full of pudding in Together Trek Woods\nEgg Balancing board walk at Vernal Pond\n\nFAQ \n\nI have a family of five or six and we’d like to be a team. Is that possible? If not\, how can the extra people in my family participate if we can not make up a second team of four? Differently sized groups are definitely possible but only four team members will be able to participate at each challenge. If switching off works for you\, additional team members can be added to your team while registering for $12 per person.\nI have a child younger than eight who wants to participate? Our age limit is a guideline.  The day will involve a fast pace\, a bit of distance\, and some physical challenges that are best suited to kids 8+ and adults.  You\, however\, are the best judge of your child’s abilities!\nDoes there have to be an adult in the group? What if my children and their friends want to make a team? That’s totally fine! All we ask is that if there is no-one older than 14 on the team\, that an adult comes along with the group to keep an eye on things. That adult will not need to pay if they are not participating!\n\nReady to accept the challenge? Registration is $50 for a non-member team of 4 or just $35 for a member team of 4. Don’t have enough for a team of 4?  Additional members of your team are just $12 per person. \n\nRegister For This Program\n\n URL:https://www.riveredgenaturecenter.org/event/adventurechallenge/ LOCATION:Riveredge Nature Center\, 4458 County Hwy Y (Hawthorne Dr)\, Saukville\, WI\, United States CATEGORIES:Adventure,Family Programs ORGANIZER;CN="Steff%20Merten":MAILTO:smerten@riveredge.us END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID="America/Chicago":20190827T190000 DTEND;TZID="America/Chicago":20190827T210000 DTSTAMP:20190817T031655 CREATED:20190613T193551Z LAST-MODIFIED:20190816T151505Z UID:23773-1566932400-1566939600@www.riveredgenaturecenter.org SUMMARY:Riveredge Photo Club DESCRIPTION: \nThe Photo Club meetings are friendly and informal\, with a brief discussion of upcoming activities\, a short program and conclude with the opportunity to share and discuss photos.  You’re welcome as a photographer\, regardless of your skill level.
