Virtual NJC Bird Club – New Era for Western Great Lakes Bird & Bat Observatory

With a new office in downtown Port Washington and 10 months at the helm of the region’s only bird observatory, Dr. Jennifer Phillips-Vanderberg will share with us what directions she is taking to help Wisconsin birds in the footsteps of Bill Mueller and founder Noel Cutright. Some 2019 highlights: Helping bring field work for the second Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas to a successful conclusion; worked to erect four revolutionary new Motus towers in Grant, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Manitowoc counties as part of a cross-state monitoring fence; counted hundreds of thousands of birds migrating along the west shore of Lake Michigan; distributed native milkweed, taught workshops, and tagged and released monarchs.
