Science For Everyone – Mapping WI From Space

April 18, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In Aug. 2016, UW-Madison & the WDNR finished a statewide project to map the current vegetation, water & urban patterns of WI. The resulting digital “land cover” map will be used by the WDNR for managing natural resources for many years in the future. State cartographer, Jim Lacy, will discuss how images from satelilites orbiting the earth hundreds of miles in space were used to create these maps, and how mapping technologies have evolved over the years. $5 donation appreciated.

Science for Everyone is a monthly lecture series sponsored by Riveredge and the Friends of LacLawrann Conservancy and the UWM Field Station. The series covers a wide range of topics including natural history, science, public policy and the environment. The programs are for the curious of any age and are open to the public. The lectures will both educate and entertain.

Please note: this month’s lecture takes place at Lac Lawrann Conservancy
