Let’s explore the forest, walk in snowshoes or sled down a hill! Following our outdoor adventures, we’ll warm up inside with more imaginative play. (Please note the seasonal time changes. No playgroup in February)
Fee: $5 per child for Trail Pass Members and Non-Members; All Access Members: Free
Playgroup Tips for Families
- Little Explorers is a drop-in style playgroup which allows children to be engaged in unstructured, outdoor play and gives parents a chance to meet other adults. A staff member or volunteer will be available to answer questions, supply equipment, or lead a hike if desired. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Playgroup will be canceled if there is a risk of severe weather. Watch the website for updates.
- Any age is welcome to attend playgroup. Our average age range is 2-5 years old, but everyone benefits when there are children of all ages.
- Our yard is stroller friendly near our play area. If we choose to go on a hike, we will also choose trails which are stroller friendly.
Winter Playgroup:
o Playgroup will still plan to explore outside if the temperature are above 10 °F. If temperatures are too cold, families are welcome to play inside the children’s library and tunnel. Indoor nature toys will be set-up in advance.
o Participants will meet inside the main building for about 20 minutes of indoor play. At about 10:30, families will head outside but we stay close to the building. Families can come inside at any time based on their own needs.
o If there is snow on the ground, families can sled or practice using Riveredge snowshoes. We also build snow animals, forts, and ice fish during the winter months.
What to Bring:
o Both parents and children should be dressed for the weather. This might include: rain pants, rain coat, waterproof boots, hat, mittens, snow pants, thermal underwear, and wear anything which can get dirty
o Extra change of clothes for each child (can be left in the car)
o Snack and water bottle (optional, but strongly recommended)
o Summer: Sunscreen, bug spray, and sunhat
