5:30 – 6:30pm Scarecrow building contest
Feeling creative? Each family will enjoy building a scarecrow, using your own materials or some of ours (grab bag style). Scarecrows will be judged at 6:30pm in five categories: most creative, most colorful, best theme, most eco-friendly and the best scare crow built entirely with materials from the grab bag we provide.
6:30 – 7:00pm Carving out good times with pumpkins
Each family will receive one pumpkin to make into a jack-0-lantern that will light our way back from the night hike. You enjoy the fun and Riveredge does the clean-up. Extra pumpkins will be available for purchase.
7:00 – 8:30pm Night hike, star gazing and campfire
As light fades into the darkness, feel how your senses come alive. Explore the nocturnal world of the prairie and forest, to see who is prowling around in the night. Whose eyes are those shining back at us? Will the owls answer our calls? During the hike, we’ll use powerful telescopes from the Northern Lights Science Foundation to view planets, stars, galaxies, nebulas, and maybe even catch a satellite or shooting star. Complete your evening of fun and adventure by roasting marshmallows around a campfire and listening to Native American legends about how the night sky came to be.
Our adventure is rain or moon shine, so dress for the weather.
Fee: Adult $10, 10 & under $5; Members: Adult $5, 10 & under $4
Pre-registration is required to ensure availability of scarecrow supports and pumpkins.
