Community Rivers Program: Know Your Watershed Bus Tour
September 13, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Jump on a bus and travel north/central sections of the Milwaukee River Watershed while stopping at locations along the way that will inspire and educate you about soil health, land management practices, and what communities are doing to improve river health. The tour bus will depart at 9:00am from Riveredge Nature Center and return by 4:00pm. Lunch will be provided and pre-registration is required.
This program is intended for residents in the villages of Saukville, Newburg, and Grafton in partnership with the Community Rivers Program

Tour Schedule
9:00: Meet at Riveredge Nature Center and board bus
9:30-12:00: Farm Tours (Clean Farm Families)
1. (9:30-10:30) Melichar Broad Acres Farm, Fredonia
- Presentation on the paradigm shift in farming practices that lead to healthier soils
- Demonstration: Rainfall Simulator – presented by NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service)
- See some examples of inter-seeded cover cover crops and no- till crops
- See a interseeder planter and roller/crimper
2. (11:00-12:00) Paulus Farm, Port Washington

- Tour milking parlor, feed storage & manure storage facility and discuss manure handling and application
- Discuss nutrient management planning
- Discuss animal husbandry
- View field tile phosphorus recovery unit (if time allows)
12:30-1:00: Lunch at E. Riverside Park, Saukville

1:00-2:00: Tour of the Village of Saukville’s Wastewater Treatment Facility
2:30-3:00: Presentation by the Grafton Historical Society on the history of the Milwaukee River – Limn Kiln Park, Grafton
3:30 – 3:50: Presentation on native prairie sod planting and park naturalization – Falkner’s Park, Newburg
4:00: Return to Riveredge
