Bird Club: Bringing Back the Piping Plover to Wisconsin’s Shores

May 4, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In 2020, Sumner Matteson, conservation biologist with the Wisconsin DNR’s Bureau of Natural Heritage Conservation,  delivered a stirring history of  Trumpeter Swan recovery in Wisconsin. He’s back with us to report on the history of Piping Plover breeding in Wisconsin and on current conservation efforts to increase nesting numbers of this state-endangered bird. Wisconsin’s Piping Plovers experienced mixed nesting success in Wisconsin in 2020.  Nine breeding pairs occurred in the state, five at the Cat Island restoration chain in lower Green Bay and four in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. Bird Club is free to attend and for the time being takes place virtually.
