Here at Riveredge, we are committed to providing families with a plethora of opportunities to get outside, be active, learn about nature, and–most importantly–have fun! In our busy lives, we all need a chance to just enjoy being a family together. At Riveredge, we provide you that chance, while reducing as many barriers as possible. We also couldn’t agree more with this quote from the Children & Nature Network:
Why get families outdoors? Quite simply, nature is good for us. Evidence shows that it is important, healthy and fun for children to have frequent and varied opportunities for play outdoors—and especially outdoors with natural vegetation—as a part of their everyday lives. When they do, they are happier, healthier and smarter. They are more self-disciplined and focused. They are more self-confident, creative and cooperative. They are better problem-solvers, more optimistic and more physically fit. Family ties are strengthened, a sense of community is nourished, and a sense of place is cultivated. All in all, nature is good for children and their friends and family, too!
At Riveredge, we have programs for families every Saturday at 10 am. Check out our events calendar to see what fun you can have this Saturday, or keep it a mystery and just sign up! Programs are only $5 a person – or, join Riveredge as an “All Access” family membership for only $75 a year (that includes lots of other perks, like unlimited free snowshoe use too!) and come to all the Saturday 10 am programs for free!
Many parents want to give their kids the gifts of nature, but don’t feel that they know enough about nature to do so. The Riveredge Family Nature Club will offer get-togethers, on the third Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:30pm, for families to soak in the benefits of time spent in nature. Club meetings will include periodic field trips off-site to natural gems in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Don’t forget about special events for families too – everything from our popular Maple Sugarin’ Open House, Frog Fest, and Nature Easter Egg Hunt to our Halloween Night Hike and so much more!
In 2014 we started an incredibly popular Tree Climbing program for youth (age 7 and older) and adults! Spend a couple of hours in the trees during one of our open climbs or host a special birthday party or group event with this one-of-a-kind program @ Riveredge!
And, you are always welcome to just come and play! Enjoy our Children’s Natural Play Area, walk the trails, climb the rock pile, read a good book in the Children’s Tree Top Library, or catch frogs by the pond. Check out a trail backpack for free to help you explore nature during your hike. Trails are open from dawn to dusk every day!
We hope to see your families at Riveredge this year. There’s so much fun to be had!
