Origin Date: 2017
Very little is known about the local occurrences and habitat preferences of bobcat in south eastern Wisconsin as it is rarely trapped in this area. A lack of focused analysis of bobcat-specific corridors and efforts to detect this species piqued our interest this year. If populations are high in norther Wisconsin, and populations are high in norther Illinois, there could be a good potential to detect the first south eastern bobcat and learn a great deal. This summer, we surveyed for bobcat using trail cameras across Ozaukee and Washington county, and generated a bobcat habitat map utilizing vegetative cover data and known habits of south western Wisconsin cats.
