2010 Student Nature Writing Contest

Riveredge Nature Center's Children's Nature Library Presents
2010 Student Nature Writing Contest
Children in grades K5-8 in the fall of 2010 are invited to write and illustrate a story in picture book format that is nature themed. The story may be fiction or non-fiction and should be no more than 750 words in length and may include up to 10 illustrations. Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, story structure, grammar, punctuation and overall appeal to the judges. Entries should be submitted with completed entry form by October 15, 2010 in order for a chance to win the grand prize of a $200 savings bond. Click here for more details.

Treasures of Oz

Sunday, July 24, 9-3pm
Get outside and see Ozaukee County's rich natural sites and resources. Treasures of Oz will provide great opportunities throughout the County for photos, birding, biking and geo-caching as well as hiking and taking in the fresh air. Riveredge is one of ten organizations participating in this new event. We will have guided prairie walks, popcorn and a craft. Trail fees will be waived for this day. The adventure ends at Forest Beach Migratory Preserve with food, music, a silent auction and a chance to win prizes. For more information click here.

Spend a fun-filled summer afternoon exploring the Riveredge prairies. Uncover some of the hidden wonders of this special environment through a variety of exciting activities. Join a Naturalist to catch, tag and release Monarch butterflies as we take part in the Monarch Watch migration research project. Learn about the journey and migration patterns of the Monarch and how you can help this amazing insect. You and your family won't want to miss storytelling, crafts, games and much more. Pre-registration is not required, but is appreciated.
Fee: Adult $7, Children $5

Hike 2 to 5 miles along The Ice Age Trail along Hwy 33 to Hwy D. We'll hike approximately one hour out and one hour back. Join us afterwards for a snack from Culvers. Click here for additional information.

Riveredge Master Naturalist Series 2010

The Riveredge Master Naturalist Series
Starts Thursday, April 1, 9am – 3pm
(First Thursday of each month for 12 months)
Led by Marc White, Riveredge’s Director of Research, Stewardship and Adult Education, is offered on the first Thursday of each month from 9 am – 3 pm. There is a $25 fee/session and participants can sign up for individual sessions or for the entire series.

The New Riveredge Natural Play Area!

The Natural Playground is designed to stimulate high quality free play and discovery learning, with Riveredge landscape and vegetation as the play settings. We expect it to be a destination for many families as they look for healthy, environmentally friendly, and age appropriate activities for their children.
