Frog Fest!

June 2 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Riveredge’s watery worlds are bursting with life in Spring! Join Riveredge naturalists and search for frogs, tadpoles, salamanders and other creatures that live in our wetlands. Get a close up look at live reptiles and amphibians while learning more about their fascinating lives; from their calls to their lifecycles.  Wander from pond to pond and then make a stop to peek through a microscope, hear a short story, and enjoy refreshments with a quick craft all focused on discovering pond pife- from frogs, to turtles, and even arthropods!

Bring the whole family for all or part of the program; you won’t want to miss this special celebration of spring! Dress for the weather and don’t forget your boots. Pre-registration suggested; required for groups.

Don’t miss the Madison Herpetology Society! This group of passionate volunteers  will be on site to educate herp enthusiasts and the general public about frequently misunderstood reptiles and amphibians.  Unfortunately, these animals get a negative image due to fear, movies, and misconceptions.  Stop by their station to dispell those myths and learn the truth about these animals and how amazing they really are. Plus- you’ll get to meet the loveable Tank- a black and white Argentine Tegu!

Prices:
Non-Member: $8 per child (adults free of charge)
Members: $5 per child (adults free of charge)

Online registration will be open until 9 AM on Saturday-  pre-registration helps you get to the frogs faster, but otherwise please feel free to walk-in and register day of! This event is designed to be festival style, so please feel free to join us whenever best works with your schedule. Be sure to save plenty of time for all the fun, though! See you Saturday!

Tips for first timers

  • We ask that your personal frog catching gear like nets, scoopers, and buckets stay at home. Each station on site will have plenty of specialized tools and instructions on how to safely and humanely catch and release all creatures we find during the fest.
  • Please Check in at the Main Building of the Nature Center. You are encouraged to pre-register online and get to the frogs faster!
  • Although you may come any time between 1:00 – 4:30 pm, we recommend arriving no later than 2:30pm if possible. This will allow you plenty of time to explore all the stations and participate in all there is to do at Frog Fest!
  • If you’re particularly enthusiastic in your frog-hunting, you just might get wet. Bring a change of clothes.
  • Yes, you’ll get to touch a frog! They begin to hide after the first hour, but don’t worry, we corral a handful so everyone has fun.
  • Frog Fest t-shirts will be for sale in the gift shop! (limited supply!)

Please note: Riveredge has recently upgraded our registration system. The good news? Registering for programs should now be much quicker and much easier! You will easily be able to register multiple family members at once, save your contact info for easy reuse, and quickly browse available programs. The bad news? Because this is a new system, we can not transfer over your old account. Unfortunately, that means you will need to create a new account on the new system and re-enter your information. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience, but please know that once you have your new account created and your info saved, you’ll have to do very little work to register for future programs.

Please don’t hesitate to call us at 262-375-2715 if you have any questions or run into any problems. We’re here to help! Thank you so much for your patience as we work to continue to improve our services for you!
